May Events and Races

May 22, 2014

Afternoon NorCal:

Memorial Day weekend is upon us and summer is not far behind. Look for a wonderful weekend of paddling all over Northern CA with races from Tahoe to Chico.

First and foremost is race #1 of the O’Neill Tahoe Cup at Donner Lake this coming Saturday. Weather looking to be delightful with sun and light winds, early morning could see some temps in the 40-50′s. Come race time at 9:00am temps in the 60′s will prevail. See you Saturday at the West End Beach on Donner Lake.

For the more adventurous group, the California 100 mile paddle race from Redding to Chico takes place on Sunday (race festivities get going on Saturday). This ultra paddle marathon is put on byRivers For Change and is open to all paddle enthusiasts. Athletes have been training for months for the event and we wish all of the paddle athletes a safe, fast and fun race.

Don’t forget the demo day and clinic on Sunday at Waterman’s Landing over at Carnelian Bay on Tahoe.

Let’s talk story for a minute, check the blog for the writeup on the Santa Cruz Downwind Ryder’s Cup from last weekend. The picture at the top of the this email is from the start of the race, BTW photo credit: Rob Born. That race was a hoot, lots of wind and well you can read all about it here.

Bluerush Summer Race Series Race #1 was last Sunday at their new digs at Bluewater Yacht Harbor in Sausalito, looked like a good turnout, results are here.

As always check the supcurrents.com calendar or check Facebook for the most up to date information.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend of paddling!
